"We were all there for the same reason. A large convention center filled with over 400 people, all gathered to solve the same problem; dirty air caused by cooking over open fires. Half of the world‘s population cook their meals over an open\r\nfire. The smoke emitted from these daily fires causes severe problems. This smoke is a main contributor to black carbon that pollutes our collective air and when inhaled daily by women and children - it kills. Using trees for firewood is diminishing our forests and trees, causing deforestation and soil erosion. Open fires have no controlled combustion and therefore burn fast, using a large amount of wood for an inefficient fire. Severe accidents with open fires occur regularly and are especially dangerous for children. Most of us are aware of these facts, and yet there is a real\r\nneed to move this profound global issue into the consciousness of the every-day public and the decision makers of our world.
